Dec 17: When Leadership Becomes Too Heavy to Carry
A dysregulated leader cannot create regulation for others
When Leadership Becomes Too Heavy to Carry
By Julia LeFevre
Many leaders carry more than their role was ever meant to hold.
They absorb tension.
They manage emotions.
They carry responsibility that never truly shuts off.
At first, it looks like dedication.
Over time, it becomes weight.
In my conversation with Jennifer Galinsky in this week's Wired to Lead episode, one truth kept surfacing.
You cannot lead well if you are carrying everyone else’s emotional load.
Jennifer spoke honestly about what helps her stay steady. Not perfectly. Intentionally.
She protects her mornings.
She moves her body before work.
She builds in relational connection.
She accepts interruption without resentment.
This is not self care as a trend.
This is leadership stewardship.
Neuroscience continues to confirm what many leaders feel but ignore. A dysregulated leader cannot create regulation for others.
Leadership is not about carrying everything.
It is about knowing what is yours to hold and what is not.
As we close Season 1 of the Wired to Lead podcast, I want to say thank you.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for reflecting alongside these conversations.
This first season laid a foundation rooted in presence, connection, and restoration.
Season 2 will begin in February, and we will continue the conversation with new voices and insights.
Until then, notice what you are carrying.
Pay attention to what your body needs.
Lead from wholeness, not depletion.
Let’s keep leading with clarity, courage, and definition.
Julia
